My understanding of Discouse Community based on readings and class discussions would be that a Discourse Community can be a group of people who have shared goals, beliefs, hobbies, etc. This group of people can communicate with eachother through various channels of communication.
The term can be broken up into two sections: Discourse can be referred to as the verbal expression in speech or writing to inform, argue, express ideas, etc. Community can be referred to as a group of people with shared values.
An example could be a facebook group which is a Discourse community that uses writing as a medium for communication.

Steve, you could demonstrate your understanding by providing more examples. Explaining with the help of examples is a great way to internalize information.
